Percussion Parade November 2018

My students love to drum! Our Percussion Parade project includes exploring drums and songs from different cultures. We are comparing and contrasting the timbre, style, structure and use of dynamics and tempo for three different cultures, by grade level. We are singing songs and playing accompanying rhythms for each of the cultures. We are reading and writing the rhythms for selected phrases of the songs. We are learning the dance and/or game that goes with each song. We are also studying an overview of the historical and geographic context for each song and culture. Because my kids love to drum!! Grant funds purchased several different types of drums and rhythm sticks so that approximately 2/3 of a class can utilize an instrument at the same time.
