2023 Cupcake Bake Off Results

The Public Schools Foundation of Tippecanoe County (PSFTC) in conjunction with Primient, hosted a cupcake baking competition with area high school culinary classes.

“For six weeks, PSFTC facilitated classroom visits where Primient personnel shared food science and manufacturing career information with culinary students”, said Christine Isbell, PSFTC Executive Director.  “In addition to the presentations, students used Primient products to make gummies. This hands-on activity brought together food and science and chemistry, and the kids loved it. ” Local bakery owners visited classrooms to offer advice on recipe development and share their best decorating tips and techniques.

“Students practiced piping frosting with different tips and got feedback on their recipe ideas. The bakery owners are local entrepreneurs who have made cakes, cookies and cupcakes their livelihood. What a treat for students to hear their inspirational stories.” said Isbell.

Teams from Greater Lafayette Career Academy, Jefferson, Harrison and McCutcheon used corn syrup manufactured locally at Primient to create a cupcake recipe and compete for a Best in Show trophy and $1,000 prize.  The culminating event, a free Tasting Party, was held on Thursday, February 16 at the Greater Lafayette Career Academy.

Congratulations to Team William Henry Harrison High School. They were crowned 2023 Best in Show and also walked away with the People’s Choice award, based on tip jar totals.
