Biogeo-whats-a-whos-it? May 2021
This project is designed to help students better understand Earth’s biogeochemical cycles, including the water, carbon, oxygen, phosphorous, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles. These cycles are essential to life on Earth, but are difficult for students to understand because many of the processes are not easy to observe directly. In this project, students will build models that simulate complex interactions within and between ecosystems. The equipment that would be funded through this grant is user-friendly and compatible with our existing software, increasing the likelihood that students will be comfortable with and successful at collecting data using it. Using this type of
‘sophisticated’ technology-based field equipment tends to legitimize the work in the eyes of the students, which increases engagement with the content as well as the technology.
