Transform Learning with Room Transformations November 2021

Transform Learning with Room Transformations will provide the children with a vast amount of resources that will be used to supplement and improve lessons in all subjects. Each of the classrooms will transform their room into the designated theme at various times throughout the year. Teachers and students will be encouraged to dress according to the theme of the unit. The students will participate in a variety of activities where they will be involved in all of the learning disciplines in order to review educational concepts in the disciplines of reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. The students will be exposed to a variety of activities during the transformation days. The materials will provide opportunities for the students to travel through each transformed room in order to be engaged in their learning by being submersed into the lessons. During the football-themed day, they will participate in football drills with their reading, math task cards that review multiplication and division, STEM activities that involve creating field goals, throwing a football, creating jerseys, and reviewing facts with a football-themed game of Kahoot! The day will be topped off with popcorn, pretzels, and water, just as if they were at the football game. During the boot camp transformation, students and teachers will dress in camo and go through different “drills” with each classroom. They will have to calculate the mean, median, mode, and range of their physical activities, such as push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, etc. They will also push through a series of reading obstacles, put their writing skills to the test with chants, and use their STEM minds to help their soldiers go through a series of obstacles with the use of simple machines.
When conquering childhood games, each classroom will be designed to accentuate a different and favorite game, such as Candyland, Clue, Monopoly, Uno, Scrabble, and Trouble. Students will travel to each game room and be immersed in reading, math, science, social studies, and writing. They will: use deductive reasoning skills to try and figure out who committed the crime in Clue; show their understanding of economics in Monopoly; build on their word knowledge of roots, prefixes, and suffixes in Scrabble; demonstrate number mastery in Uno, and use STEM to develop a bag to carry candy in Candyland.
Lastly, the teachers will have the students participate in an Amazing Race. They will have to use their geography skills to navigate through places, their knowledge of math skills to solve real-world problems, they will have STEM activities that involve creating a form of transportation, reading and problem-solving skills to navigate through the material, and so much more. Students at all ability levels will benefit from the use of these days because the excitement of the various activities and resources will be used to enrich and reinforce concepts in a highly engaging way.
